  • THE FORMATION AND HISTORY OF SNUG HATBOR YACHT CLUB: Sometime in 1943 a group of ten yachtsmen from thee Chicago Yacht Club searched for a piece of land where the could retire and enjoy their boats. The decided on Stuart, in part because of its easy access to the ocean and to Florida’s west coast through the cross -state canal. In the following year they formed the Snug Harbor Corporationthrough which the land was surveyedand divided into plats, roads were built, Ficus trees were planted, and a harbor was dredged. All expenses borne by the corporation. However, no deeds were writtenuntil January 1975 when the Snug Harbor Yacht Club was formed as a condominium, likely because the owners of the corporation, several of whom were lawyers, felt that condominium law was better developed than other types of property owners’ associations were. A Burgee - a distinguishing flag typically in the form of a pennant — was designed for Snug Harbor using the International Flag Code for the Lerrer S supermposedon the letter H and is recorded in Lloyds Register of American Yachts. The form of law in Florida that governs condominium associationsis the Declaration, a document that outlines rules and regulations, some of which are highlighted here. In addition we,( Snug Harbor) publish rulesadopted by the Board of Governors that compose a code of conduct to enhance the serenity and harmony that is a characteristic of this community. The declaration in its entirety can be found on the website. www.snughyc.com
